Characters

ChoCho: A boy who has just turned sixteen. ChoCho likes to wear skirts and is in love with Jynx. He is the son of a Japanese American mother and his father is from Guam. Both parents met each other while serving in the military overseas. ChoCho speaks Chomoro and Japanese some couple of notches above poorly, but well enough to argue with his parents in either language.

Jynx: Nearly eighteen, Jynx has her father’s truck and an incredible amount of street smarts. She dropped out of school for reasons unknown, and has been dating ChoCho only recently. All we know about her parents are that they are in the ‘import/export’ business, and are never actually home. Jynx can be violently protective of ChoCho. Jynx speaks Spanish, though her dialect is more Femme Chicana than Castilian or Latino.

Jude: Jude was found by Jynx and ChoCho as they worked their way across Phoenix, filling a fifth wheel full of food rations and supplies. Jude is almost always accompanied by his dog, Gryph. Jude is taller than Jynx, but not by much, and he’s thin, tending to dress casual, wearing hemp or cotton. He was a computer programmer for a major corporation, focusing on metaphysical research. Jude reads and writes a lot of computer languages. Jude’s primary concerns are unknown, though he seems to have become affectionate and protective of ‘the kids’ relatively quickly. Jude is also the Governmental Contact in charge of Federal Negotiations for Quick Fox Glenn, and before the storm answered the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Gryphon (or Gryph): Jude’s dog, who is quiet, dignified, and extremely empathic. If there’s trouble, then he’s careful to be in the middle of it. Jude is a brussels griffon, tail included. He’s also a good rat hunter and quite sociable, once you get to know him.

Daria: Daria is the leader of the Order of the Black Purse, a group of paladins who tour and perform shows at Renaissance Festivals. She has red hair, hazel eyes, and freckles everywhere. She is also exceptionally skilled with a broadsword, and undefeated in competitive sparring. She is taller than Jynx, and keeps her hair short.

Joe: Joe works as a stage pirate, and happened to be at the same festival as Daria. The two know each other, but aren’t necessarily close.

Jon: A member of the Order of the Black Feather. Also, the female counterpart of a marriage in which the couple have been fighting with swords and bows for years. The two are actually extremely competative with each other, though they have never let it get out of hand. Jon has black hair and blue eyes, is around 5 feet tall, and set with muscle.

Teri: A member of the Order of the Black Feather. Jon’s husband, Teri has a weakness for kilts and soft clothing. He’s also brutal with a rapier. Teri is lithe, fast, around six feet tall and thin. His nose is rather thin and pronounced, and his eyes are black, while his hair is brown. His skin doesn’t tan, so he keeps covered and to the shadows.

Tomas: Tomas is a ranchero who herds cattle south of the four corners region on a tract of land set aside by the government for public grazing. Mostly soft spoken, he is well travelled by truck and by horse, with friends on all sides of the four corners region. He is almost always accompanied by his horse, Caballa, who is loyal only to him.

Caballa: Tomas should probably have given his horse a better name, especially since she is so loyal to him. She is a biting pinto who is ridden bitless, and trusted more often than not to her own instincts in matters of course and speed. Head strong and spoiled, she loves high grass and carrots, and apparently the occasional nip of human flesh.

Kevin: A squire to Teri within the Order of the Black Purse, in the real world he is an average student with an interest in becoming an equestrian veterinarian. He is a darker side of blonde, and can almost tan, with eyes leaning toward green, or perhaps hazel. Kevin has a strong sense of how the world should work, and has developed an immediate affection for ChoCho.

Arpie: The sheriff in Quick Fox Glenn, built around a government research facility whose focus was on jet engines before the storm. Arpie’s emotional state is unstable due to an absence of governmental structure. One time given the authority to protect and serve ten thousand people, his job is now more like babysitter for three hundred. He is a blue eyed, gray haired forty something in chiseled, rugged shape, if only because his body has not caught up with the current state of his mind.

George: Also known as GE, or George Enrique, is hispanic in heritage, but very south by south east in cultural upbringing. He was the mayor of Quick Fox Glenn before the storm, and still holds a tenuous grip on that title in the aftermath. His three hundred surviving voters, however, are set to keep him in check as he works to save them from themselves. George is Jude’s lover from two years before the storm, and, like most politicians in small towns, has the double duty of a second job, working on aircraft as lead technician in charge of engine retrofit and redesign.

Opus: Not much is known about Opus. Quiet, aloof, incredibly strong, Opus tries to do what’s right. He’s also extremely smart.

Nita (Nguyet): One of Joe’s old friends, Nita is one tough girl. She has raised her son, Chan, alone, and works extremely hard to see to both success and anonymity.

Cody, (Kodiak): a friend of Nita, formerly a police officer, now a survivor of the Storm.

Lips: Poor Lips, what can be said about a young person that works in fast food.

Chan: Nita’s son, just turned five, and rather wiser than he should be for his age.
