FAQ

A Little about Dark Matters
I am writing this in a way that I hope won’t cause too many spoilers. Dark Matters is a serial novel that I am adapting to the web because it gives me more freedom of expression than the printed book does. Also, the style of Dark Matters, the intimate nature of its characters, as well as the experimental nature of the writing makes the web a perfect medium . It’s genre is science fiction/Intimate Literature.

How Often does Dark Matters Update?
Currently, Dark Matters updates once a week.

Will You Be Updating More Often in the Future?
Maybe. It all depends on time.

How big are the updates?
Typically, and update will be between 800 and 1600 words, depending on the pacing. Sometimes, though, if I am illustrating, I will post the illustrations, because drawing takes a lot of time.

What is ‘Intimate Literature?’
Intimate Literature is a term I am using to describe the style in which I am writing Dark Matters. The focus of details is on hume action and behavior as it is happening, with a minimum of physical or emotional distance from the essential hume condition of the individual being described. It does not attempt to classify or define said behavior through the typical omission of experience, detail of activity, or behaviors. Nor does it assume that the actions of a character are resultant entirely of past experience, cultural influence, or gender/behavioral stereotyping. Instead, Intimate Literature tries to include and expand the language to meet the needs of the character’s unique mental and physical traits, abilities, experiences, and actions. This requires working in a style that can only be defined by invention of a semiotic paradigm that is more flexible, at least linguistically, to the complex notions of hume, rather than the limiting notions of social and cultural ideological expectation. (Hume is used as a gender neutral representation of the word Human.)

Why did you choose third person, present tense for this piece?
I want to thank the most honorable Zombie Penguin for allowing me the window of asking to explain my reasons for structuring my writing as I have. Since the answer is lengthy, I am giving it its Own Page.

I’m not getting a registration confirmation email. What’s up with that?
If it isn’t sending them, don’t worry, I generally add users every time I log in to work on something. In other words, practically every day.

Can I write Fan Fiction about the characters? (and post it on the web, your site, some other site)
No, please don’t. Or if you do, keep it in a (paper) journal off the internet and out of print, in other words, not part of the mass market. The reasons are simple. This world and its characters are my creation. I have spent (literally) years working on this project, developing the dark physics and characters, working through the stories and their eventual summation. Because of this, I would appreciate it if the words I am writing in this reality be sourced from the creator of this reality: aka, me, and not a second party, no matter how flattering it might seem. I do thank the one person who asked for being courteous enough to do so. More importantly, the world needs new ideas, new ways of thinking, creating, and telling stories, and I believe that every person who has enough creativity to exploit, use, borrow or hijack somebody else’s idea or creation, should have enough talent to create their own story, and express it accordingly. Do everything you can to Say Something and Be Heard. Just, please, use your own voice, write your own lyrics, and work from an original score.

What about drawing the characters?
Uh, no, please don’t. I’ve been working on projects that will bring the characters into light, and I will be working with artists and models to spice things up. Some of you who have been here from the start know I have a habit of occasionally throwing in an illustration or drawing, and I might even start doing this retroactively as time permits, once things have settled and my final project(s) are posting online.

Do you mind people pointing out Typos?
Of course I would love for you to point out my sometimes glaring mistakes. There is an overlay program in the text driver of my Macbook that lights up every potential spelling error as I go, in almost every document I am editing, except, ironically, in really large Word documents. Since I write novel length fiction using Microsoft Word, most of my serial work, even work that is not fully completed, is done in an environment where I have to rely on a spellcheck process to capture things after a second read through. It also has to rely on me not deciding to go back and change something later, then not do a spellcheck again.

If you find something, and don’t want to post a comment, Contact Me by email.

Also, don’t assume that I will change something just because you think it needs changed. Character dialog and experimentation with specific word context, to include the creation of words that meet a new definition of a specific concept or objective are something I work a great deal with.

Despite this, such input is always welcome.

Do you want an editor to look at your work before it goes to print?
I am going to keep this one a simple no. I thank those who have asked, but I would prefer to keep the work primarily focused in the moment for everybody.
